IN SEARCH OF A LOW-STRESS JOB...

I began to think that something online would be PERFECT for me, because I could work from home, in my jammies if I wanted, whenever it fit into MY schedule. My day would not have to be consumed with getting ready for work, travel time into town and back, plus a schedule that may or may not allow for other things on my calendar. I still had high-school students homeschooling, and though they were pretty independent in their studies, it was still important for me to be around, and there were PLENTY of social activities, extracurricular classes, and music lessons to drive to! Plus, if I were not feeling well, or only had an hour to spend on my job that day, and it was from 9-10pm, I would have the luxury of modifying my workload to suit me, because I knew my "boss" would understand! ;-)

NOW ALL I NEED IS AN IDEA...AND SOMEONE TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH IT...

Narrowing it down to "something online" was the easy part. Exactly WHAT was I going to DO online??

I've sold a few things on auction sites and used curriculum boards, but that seemed awfully labor-intensive for only a couple dollars profit per item. Besides, that didn't fit in with Rich Dad's philosophy of making your money work for you, instead of you working for money. If I quit listing things, the income stopped. I was looking for something that I could put the effort into once and it would "work" for me multiple times over. Something that was "there", even when I wasn't. I needed some sort of permanent presence, available 24/7 to people everywhere, not just my small town.

It was then, while I was trying to hatch an idea, that I came upon SBI. Since I had this notion of a website, but had NO idea how to go about getting one/building one/whatever the correct terminology was(!), I really needed a thorough hand-holding, someone to spell out every single step, speaking in layman's terms, and able to predict my next question before *I* even knew what it was. SBI is a complete education in developing a web business, even before you know what you want to build a site about!

There is a video tutorial that you can watch (or read, if you prefer the text version) that starts at the VERY beginning, telling you what you need to know to begin: how to use the Brainstorm It! tool to research the ideas you have to determine which one would be most viable topic for your site, how to organize your thoughts and map out your website pages, how to find and utilize keywords to attract search engines to your site, and more. Turns out, you don't even have to know anything about computer programming, or HTML, or any of that "techie" stuff, either. SBI has it's own "Block Builder" for laying out pages, all you do is compose your text, cut-n-paste into the block builder, and click! Once you get the hang of producing pages and are ready to learn stunts, you can always upload your own HTML, but for beginners, it removes that obstacle and gets you online FIRST.

Knowing that beginners are easily overwhelmed, the tutorial feeds you bite by bite, telling you what you need to think about NOW, and what to save for later. You can rest in complete confidence that the Action Guide knows EXACTLY what you should be doing, and when you should be doing it. It keeps your focus narrowed on the ONE thing that should have your attention at that moment. But never fear, it will get to the more "advanced" stuff, like how to plan your monetization strategy, how to generate traffic to your site, how to add shopping carts, forums, blogs, autoresponders, and everything else that you have no idea yet that you need ;-)

ADRENAL FATIGUE RECOVERY IS BORN

After brainstorming a list of things that I knew alot about-- homeschooling, hobbies, etc.-- and researching some of those ideas as potential topics for my website, Adrenal Fatigue rose to the top as being a niche that was not completely saturated with competition, and was something that I had a hard time finding much information on when I was looking. Here was a perfect opportunity to share what I had learned with more than just my small circle of friends! I could solidify my knowledge by turning around and writing about what I learned, and at the same time, be learning how to build a successful website, all from the comfort of my own home, at my own pace. What could be better?

LIFE INTERVENES...

Well, six months into my new website project my husband received a job transfer, and we had to finish up the school year (which included two graduations--one college, one high school), travel 10 hours away to find a new home with acreage for our animals, get our current home ready to sell, coordinate a cross-country move...you get the picture.

In order to not send myself into an Adrenal Fatigue Relapse, I had to stop working on the website and focus on the move, and everything that comes after a move like that--painting, unpacking, learning about our new state and community, and a couple road trips to visit friends and family, who were now a mere 5-6 hours away, instead of the previous 14 hours. Then came the holidays...

When I finally got ready to settle back into my "work" routine of writing for the website, it had been nearly a YEAR! I only had maybe 10 or so pages put up before the move, so it was still very incomplete, however when I checked my traffic stats, the number of people visiting my site had steadily increased in my absence, and was DOUBLE what it was last time I looked! WOW! This website works, even when I don't! Just imagine what would happen if I actually spent some time on it! Hahahaha...

I AM NOT ALONE!

I was thrilled that fall when an SBI conference was planned within an hour of my new home--many of the attendees were locals, so I was able to meet some new people in my area, as well as put some faces to names that I was familiar with from the forums. I also made some new friends from my childhood hometown! Turns out, working from home is FAR from an isolating experience!

The online forums are full of friends who know just what you're talking about and are ready and willing to help you with any questions you have. I have NEVER participated in an online forum as spirited, lively, kind and GENEROUS as this one!
